7. Taxi Guidance and Runway Crossings
When Draw taxi guide on ground is enabled, NextATC draws a ground route from the aircraft to the relevant runway, hold-short point, crossing point, or parking area.
The taxi guide uses X-Plane airport taxi-route data when available. It can also use supplemental centerline data for airports whose taxi networks have gaps.
Follow Me service#
At airports with a published Ground frequency, use Request Follow Me in the ATC actions before departure or after reporting the landing runway vacated. Small airports operate one car; airports with more parking positions or a larger surface network operate two. Synthetic flights can receive random escorts too, so Ground may answer that every vehicle is busy and ask you to try again. A vehicle becomes requestable as soon as it reports service terminated.
On arrival, keep taxiing toward the assigned parking: the car recalculates its position and a forward meeting point every 10 seconds, always between the aircraft's current position and its parking destination. Continue following the taxi clearance while the car approaches. The Nav Display shows a separate thin violet route for each Follow Me car; synthetic yellow taxi routes are slightly thinner than the ownship guide.
Runway crossing handling is part of the ground flow:
- If your route crosses an active or relevant runway, Ground may instruct you to hold short.
- Request crossing clearance when the Radio Log offers it.
- Cross only after the clearance is read back.
- Report vacated when instructed or when the flow offers the action.
If landing traffic is detected, the plugin may hold you short until it is safe to continue.
