6. Departure Flow

Choose Override departure runway in the flight plan dialog. It defaults to the normal airport-and-wind choice; selecting another runway adds it to the active departure configuration while keeping the arrival configuration unchanged. When built-in synthetic traffic is enabled, NextATC replaces that population before the filing completes. External TCAS traffic is not changed.

After inserting the plan, the departure dialog keeps that runway fixed and lets you choose:

  • Don't use SID if you do not want a SID.
  • Choose SID if you want to manually pick a SID.
  • Automatic SID if you want the plugin to select one.
  • On Screen Preview to inspect runway/SID geometry while selecting.

VFR flights force SID use off because SIDs are IFR procedures.

When the SID state is confirmed, request clearance and read it back. SimBrief can populate the same departure-runway field, which remains editable before filing.

The typical departure sequence is:

  1. File the flight plan.
  2. Confirm the SID for the runway already selected in the flight plan dialog, if prompted.
  3. Request IFR or VFR clearance.
  4. Read back the clearance.
  5. Tune Ground when instructed.
  6. Request engine start, pushback, and/or taxi depending on airport context.
  7. Follow the taxi guide to the holding point.
  8. Hold short at runway crossings when instructed.
  9. Tune Tower at the holding point.
  10. Request takeoff.
  11. Read back takeoff clearance and depart.
  12. Contact Center when instructed.
